Founded by friends who love acoustic music

It began with a simple question in 1988. A group of friends who loved acoustic music asked how they could bring the best performing songwriters to central Ohio. Frustrated by the lack of national and regional acoustic acts playing in the area at the time, we decided to produce concerts ourselves. The result was Six String Concerts, an all-volunteer run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that—more than 30 years later—continues to bring great established and emerging singer-songwriters to central Ohio audiences. They span a variety of musical genres, primarily contemporary folk, but also including roots, Americana, bluegrass, and country.

We do not own or operate a venue. Instead, we seek venues for our performances where concerts can be held in an intimate, alcohol-free environment that provides the performers and audience with a high quality concert experience. After the show, attendees often have an opportunity to meet the performers. We also periodically host artist workshops. In 2015, Six String was named “Best Listening Room in Columbus” by Columbus Monthly Magazine.

During a typical season, Six String presents top touring acoustic musicians in a series of 8–10 concerts held between September and May. Like everyone in the performing arts, during the pandemic, when live performances stopped, we pivoted to connecting our patrons with livestream shows. We appreciate the ongoing support of our sponsors, partners, and patrons and are excited to be back to live music again!
